Thinking Atlas · An attempt to map the world of thinking

The Information Architecture of Thought

What is thought? How does thinking happen, why do we think, and how have our ways of thinking changed? What is changing as artificial intelligence becomes part of that activity?

İLKER ARABACI, CLAUDE FABLE 5.1, CHATGPT ASTRA 6

This experimental study approaches thinking through the relationships between body, brain, language, meaning, society, sacred texts and tools. Each brings a different question into view. Putting them together helps us see where their explanations meet and where they leave something unresolved.

Our point of departure is Martin Heidegger’s question, What Is Called Thinking? The path has taken us beyond the caves and into silicon chips, through territory we are still learning to describe.

The atlas offers several ways into each subject. An opening passage and a small diagram introduce the question. In brief gives an accessible first account; Explanation develops the argument; In depth considers objections and questions that remain open. Three questions at the end leave room for a response of your own.

These levels offer different depths of reading, rather than a ranking of readers. You can follow a question across the atlas or return to a source when a claim needs closer attention.

English edition in progress. The first seventeen sections are available here: the opening, Method, Heidegger, the four layers, the concept tree, concept clusters, the seven-language matrix, word histories, material traces, the explanation of the thinking being, a genealogy of thinking, pioneers, sacred texts, working with artificial systems, hypotheses, research records and Appendix A. Later atlas sections, Appendices B–F, the Turkish bibliography and the verification notes are currently available in Turkish. Türkçe giriş
